L’héritage de notre riche passé

L’histoire de la ruée vers l’or et les diverses cultures autochtones du Yukon ont sans doute contribué à sa renommée, mais il existe d’innombrables autres histoires qui ont aidé à tisser la trame de notre patrimoine.

Des mammouths laineux à la « police montée »

Cette région connue sous le nom de Béringie était jadis parcourue par le mammouth laineux et le chat des cavernes. Beaucoup plus tard, il devint essentiel de doter le Yukon de moyens de transport pour assurer sa croissance, ce qui a donné lieu à la construction du chemin de fer de la White Pass & Yukon Route et de la route de l’Alaska, ainsi qu’au développement de l’aviation. L’histoire de la police à cheval est étroitement liée à celle du Yukon. Bien que moins connue, l’histoire de l’exploitation des mines d’argent présente aussi des chroniques fascinantes.
